The challenge

Generating code is easy. Building a coherent commercial product is not.

Photo Lab had to connect a premium visual experience to an operational customer journey: product discovery, account and profile completion, image intake, a gated cart, Stripe checkout, order state, communication, production review, and delivery.

The hard part was making those capabilities behave like one product while protecting known-good paths during repeated AI-assisted changes. Requirements, dependencies, evidence boundaries, and release control mattered as much as the generated PHP, CSS, and JavaScript.

My role

Founder · Product Strategist · AI-Assisted Solution Designer · UX Director · Development Lead

I owned the product intent and the decisions that turned separate capabilities into a releaseable customer experience. AI served as a force multiplier inside a controlled development process.

Product strategy
Defined the offer, audience, commercial journey, and what the service needed to make possible.
UX & customer journey
Directed discovery, account creation, profile completion, image intake, cart, checkout, order, and fulfillment paths.
Visual direction
Set the cinematic motion, branding, hierarchy, typography, product imagery, and conversion-focused presentation.
Application architecture
Defined how sessions, profiles, uploads, commerce, orders, communications, and delivery should cooperate.
AI development orchestration
Converted requirements and defects into scoped instructions for AI coding systems.
Quality & release control
Reviewed implementations, caught regressions, directed corrections, and established new known-good baselines.

Human + AI development model

AI accelerated implementation. Human judgment controlled the product.

  1. 01Define

Set the product outcome, audience, boundaries, and success conditions.

  2. 02Specify

Translate intent into routes, states, rules, dependencies, and acceptance checks.

  3. 03Generate

Use AI coding systems to implement a bounded change against the current baseline.

  4. 04Review

Inspect code and experience for assumptions, omissions, and unintended scope.

  5. 05Test

Exercise syntax, links, responsive behavior, workflow gates, and critical paths.

  6. 06Correct

Turn observed failures into precise follow-up requirements and patches.

  7. 07Release

Package a verified baseline with rollback, configuration, and deployment guidance.

Verified product architecture

One customer journey, coordinated across presentation, commerce, production, and delivery.

Implementation boundary

The reviewed source uses PHP sessions and a JSON-backed production path, with PDO/MySQL components represented as an optional persistence path. An isolated AI-provider adapter and a manual-provider mode are present; this case study does not claim unattended generation or automatic quality approval.

The live homepage below demonstrates the production interface I designed and developed using an AI-assisted development workflow. The experience incorporates cinematic motion, a continuously moving background, animated banner content, responsive navigation, custom branding, and conversion-focused product presentation.

AI image production

A controlled service workflow—not a one-click quality promise.

  1. IntakeIntended use, identity reference, crop, wardrobe, scene, and customer direction.
  2. Clean passConfirm usable source material and establish a stable visual foundation.
  3. Controlled editApply scoped changes while protecting recognizable identity and anatomy.
  4. Premium polishRefine lighting, detail, background, styling, and overall coherence.
  5. VariantsProduce alternatives only within the approved creative brief.
  6. Human quality controlReview identity, gaze, expression, hands, wardrobe, lighting, and intended use before delivery.

Evidence boundary: the source and report support a guided intake, provider-adapter, order-state, review, and delivery model. No conversion, revenue, ROI, turnaround, unattended-generation, or automatic-quality claim is made.

Safe-patch methodology

Govern AI-assisted development with an authoritative baseline and observable checks.

  1. Authoritative sourceKnow which files and requirements control the decision.
  2. Known-good baselineBegin from a working release with understood behavior.
  3. Scoped changeConstrain the request, affected files, preserved behavior, and prohibited changes.
  4. VerificationTest syntax, paths, navigation, visual behavior, workflow states, and regression risk.
  5. New baselineRecord the result, package rollback, and advance only after evidence supports it.

This approach reduces unrequested rewrites, false assumptions, broken navigation, path drift, visual regression, restored defects, displaced working logic, and deployment mistakes.

Confirmed technology stack

A deployable PHP application with isolated commerce, communications, and production concerns.

Experience

Semantic HTML, custom CSS, responsive layouts, JavaScript, looping video, animated product panorama, local brand assets.

Application

PHP 8, sessions, registration and login, profile gates, CSRF controls, file validation, cart and customer dashboard workflows.

Commerce & communication

Stripe Checkout, signed webhook handling where configured, order state, status/delivery email templates, protected download tokens.

Persistence & delivery

JSON stores in the reviewed production path, optional PDO/MySQL components, private environment configuration, versioned releases, rollback instructions.

AI-assisted development

Requirements decomposition, structured prompts, coding agents, provider-adapter thinking, defect-driven correction, AI-assisted debugging and QA.

Key insight

AI-generated code is not the same thing as an AI-developed product.

A commercial application still requires someone to understand the customer, define requirements, design workflows, make architectural decisions, evaluate tradeoffs, recognize failures, protect working functionality, and decide whether the final experience solves the intended problem.

I provided the strategy, requirements, design direction, judgment, testing, and product ownership. AI accelerated execution.

Capabilities demonstrated

Senior product judgment across concept, implementation, and release.
